1966년, 미국 상원의원이었던 로버트 케네디는 남아프리카 공화국을 방문하여 커다란 감동을 주었습니다.

그는 케이프타운 대학에서 “희망의 물결”이라는 유명한 연설을 통해 흑인 인종차별에 반대하는 사람들에게 희망의 메시지를 전하였습니다.

그리고 이와 같은 수많은 다른 에너지의 중심들이 서로 부딪쳐 나가면서, 그 물결은 어떤 강력한 압제와 저항의 벽도 무너뜨릴 수 있는 거대한 조류가 됩니다.”

지금 이 세상도 때로는 희망이 거의 없어 보입니다. 그러나 주님을 따르는 이들에겐 궁극적인 희망이 항상 준비되어 있습니다. 베드로는 이렇게 기록하였습니다. “우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지 하나님을 찬송하리로다 그의 많으신 긍휼대로 예수 그리스도를 죽은 자 가운데서 부활하게 하심으로 말미암아 우리를 거듭나게 하사 산 소망이 있게 하시며”(벧전 1:3).
그리스도의 확실한 부활로 말미암아, 하나님의 자녀들은 작은 물결보다도 훨씬 더 큰 희망을 가지고 있습니다. 그것은 우리를 위해 죽음을 이기신 주님의 신실하심을 믿는 확신이라는 거대한 조류입니다. 우리의 가장 큰 원수인 죽음을 이기신 예수님은 가장 절망적인 순간에도 희망을 불어넣어 주십니다.

호주의 퍼스에서 기차를 타려던 한 남자가 미끄러져서 기차 객차와 역 승강장 사이의 틈에 다리가 끼어 버렸습니다.

많은 승객들이 그를 구하려고 재빨리 달려와 온 힘을 다해 기차를 떠밀어 조금 기울게 함으로써 그 남자는 빠져나올 수 있었습니다!

에베소서 4장에서 우리는 사람들의 힘은 하나님의 공동체를 세우기 위한 하나님의 계획이라는 것을 알게 됩니다.

“온 몸이 각 마디를 통하여 도움을 받음으로 연결되고 결합되어 각 지체의 분량대로 역사하여 그 몸을 자라게 하며 사랑 안에서 스스로 세우기 위하여”(16절) 하나님은 우리 각 사람에게 특별한 하나님의 은사를 주셨습니다(7절).
He has given each of us a special gift of His grace for specific purpose that the whole body joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in live, as each part does its work"
하나님의 공동체 안에서는 각자 해야 할 일이 있으며, 구경만 하는 사람은 아무도 없습니다.

그 안에서 우리는 함께 울고 함께 웃으며, 짐도 서로 나누어집니다.

완벽함의 횡포

만일 우리가 죄가 없다고 말하면 스스로 속이고 또 진리가 우리 속에 있지 아니할 것이요 - 요한1서 1:8
브라이언 골드만 박사는 그의 환자들을 치료하는데 집착에 가까울 정도로 완벽하려고 노력했습니다.

He revealed that he had treated a woman in the emergency room and then made the decision to discharge her.
그날 나중에 간호사가 그에게 “오늘 퇴원시킨 그 환자 기억하세요? 그 환자가 다시 들어왔어요.”라고 말했습니다.
That day, a nurse said to him "Do you remember the patient who you 퇴원시키다. The patient came back again."
Later that day a nurse asked him, "Do you remember that patient you sent home? Well, she's back."
그 환자는 병원에 다시 입원했지만 곧 죽고 말았습니다.
The patient 입원하다 in the hospital again but was dead soon.
The patient had been readmitted to the hospital and then died.
이 일로 그는 엄청난 충격에 빠졌습니다.
He was in shock due to this accident.
This devastated him.
그는 그 이후 완벽해지기 위해 더욱 더 노력했지만, 결국 ‘완벽은 불가능하다’는 명백한 사실만 깨닫게 되었습니다.
He realized that through he tried to be perfect after then, the perfect is not possible at last.
He tried even harder to be perfect, only to learn the obvious: Perferction is impossible.

두 명의 일꾼들에게 지금 무엇을 건축하고 있는지 물어보았습니다. 한 사람은 차고를 짓는 중이라고 말했고, 다른 사람은 성당을 짓는 중이라고 대답했습니다. 그 다음날 한 사람만이 벽돌을 쌓고 있었습니다. 같이 일하던 사람은 어디 있느냐고 물었더니, 그는 “차고가 아니라 성당을 짓겠다고 고집 부리다가 해고당했습니다.”라고 대답했습니다.
Two workers were asked what they were building. One said he was building a garage and another a cathedral. When asked where the other worker was, he replied "he was fired because of insisting to building a cathedral."

고대 바벨탑 건설현장에서도 이와 비슷한 일이 벌어졌습니다. 사람들이 도시에 탑을 하늘 끝까지 쌓아올려 흩어지지 말자고 결의했습니다(창 11:4). 그러나 하나님은 그들이 하나님의 자리까지 올라서서 자신들의 모든 문제를 해결할 수 있을 것이라는 생각에 기인한 이 거창하고 자기중심적인 계획을 추진하는 것을 원하지 않으셨습니다. 그래서 하나님은 땅에 내려와 그 일을 중단시켰고, 사람들을 “온 지면에” 흩으신 후 서로 말이 통하지 않게 하셨습니다(8-9절).
The similar event happened in the ancient Babel Tower ??. People 결의하다? to spread away until finishing building the tower. However, God didn't want that they 일을 추진하다? the grand and sellfish plan from the thought that they could reach the God position. Therefore God came down , stopped building it, spread people on the earth and made language different.
Something similar happened on the ancient worksite of Babel. A group of people decided they would build a city and a tower that would reach to the heavens and unite their world. But God didn't want them working on their grand and self-centered plan based on the idea that they could rise to the heights of God and solve all of their own. So he came down, stopped the project, scattered the people "over all the earth," and gave them different languages.
하나님은 사람들이 문제가 있을 때 하나님을 통해 해답을 얻기를 원하셨기에, 그들을 향한 하나님의 계획을 아브라함에게 밝히 보여주셨습니다(창 12:1-3). 그리고 어떻게 아브라함과 그의 자손들이 믿음을 통해 “하나님이 계획하시고 지으실 터가 있는” 성을 바라볼 수 있었는지 세상에 보여주시고자 하셨습니다(히 11:8-10).

After owning and working at his dental lab for 50 years, Dave Bowman planned to retire and take it easy. Diabetes and heart surgery confirmed his decision. But he heard about a group of refugees from Sudan who needed help, he made life-changing decision. He agreed to sponsor five of them.

Dave knew this young Sudanese men, he knew they had not seen a doctor or a dentist ever before. Then one day, someone in church mentioned 'if one part suffered, everyone suffered with it. He couldn't get the verse out of his mind. Christian in Sudan were suffering because they didn't get any medical services, and Dave sensed that God tell him to do something, But what should he do?
As Dave learned more about these young Sudanese men, he discovered that they have never been to a doctor or a dentist. Then one day in church someone mentioned the verse, "If one part suffers, every part suffers with it." He couldn't get the verse out of his mind. Sudanese were suffering because they needed medical care, and Dave sensed that God was telling him to do something about it. But what?

Through Dave was old and not healthy, he began searching the possibility to build a medical center. Little by little, God brought together the people and resources, and finally in 2008 Memorial Christian Hospital opened its door to patients. Since then many sick and injured people had been treated there.
